Der spanische Name der Insel (welcher zumeist benutzt wird) kommt von dem Schutzheiligen der Seefahrer Sankt Christopher. Der \u00e4ltere englische (heute kaum noch benutzte) Name Chatham stammt von William Pitt, dem 1. Earl of Chatham. San Crist\u00f3bal hat eine Fl\u00e4che von ca. 558km\u00b2 und der h\u00f6chste Punkt liegt ca. 730m \u00fcber dem Meeresspiegel. Die Haupstadt von Galapagos, der Hafen Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, befindet sich an der S\u00fcdwestlichen Spitze der Insel. Zwei Fluggesellschaften (Tame und Aerogal) fliegen die Insel t\u00e4glich von Guayaquil an, Fl\u00fcge von Quito machen eine Zwischenlandung in Guayaquil.<\/p><p>Mit dem Hafen Puerto Baquerizo Moreno hat die Insel eine der wenigen permanenten Siedlungen im Archipel \u2013 nur 5 Inseln sind bewohnt (San Cristobal, Floreana, Isabela, Santa Cruz und Baltra (Marinest\u00fctzpunkt)). Puerto Baquerizo Moreno hat ca. 8000 Einwohner und heute noch den gem\u00fctlichen Charme einer kleinen Hafenstadt mit noch relativ wenigen Touristen im Vergleich zu Puerto Ayora (Insel Santa Cruz). Bereits am Anlegesteg werden Besucher von den lautstarken Rufen der heimischen Seel\u00f6wen begr\u00fcsst, welche die kleinen Str\u00e4nde des Ortes und manchmal auch die Uferpromenade vereinnahmen. Ein kleiner Spaziergang in die nahe Umgebung der Stadt erm\u00f6glicht dem Besucher Klippenkrabben, Meeresechsen, Fregattv\u00f6gel und endemische Spottdrosseln zu beobachten. Das Interpretationszentrum am Ortsrand bietet viele interessante Informationen \u00fcber die Evolution, Geschichte und einigartige Flora und Fauna der Galapagos Inseln. Im Hinterland von San Cristobal wird in kleinen Farmen Obst, Gem\u00fcse und sogar organischer Kaffee angebaut.<\/p><p><strong>Interpretationszentrum:<\/strong><\/p><p>Das Zentrum liegt am Ortsrand von San Cristobal und bietet eine gute Einf\u00fchrung in die Flora und Fauna des Galapagos National Parks ebenso wie des Marine Reservats. Dar\u00fcber hinaus gibt es Bilder und Erz\u00e4hlungen der Geschichte der Inseln und Ihrer Entstehung.<\/p><p><strong>Cerro Tijeretas (Fregattvogelfelsen):<\/strong><\/p><p>Eine kleine Wanderung f\u00fchrt in ca. 30 Minuten rund 1.5km von Puerto Baquerizo Moreno auf den Fregattvogelfelsen. Nachdem man \u00fcber eine Reihe Treppen dessen Gipfel erreicht hat, wird man mit einer spektakul\u00e4ren Aussicht \u00fcber die Bucht auf der einen Seite und den Hafen auf der anderen belohnt. Hier kann Prachtfregattv\u00f6gel und Bindenfregattv\u00f6gel beobachten, die in den umliegenden B\u00fcschen nisten und elegant \u00fcber die Bucht gleiten. In der Bucht kann man gesch\u00fctzt von den Str\u00f6mungen schwimmen und schnorcheln, viele tropische Fische und manchmal sogar Rochen entdecken.<\/p><p><strong>El Junco:<\/strong><\/p><p>Im s\u00fcdwestlichen Teil der Insel liegt im Hochland die Kraterlagune El Junco. Der Rundweg um die Lagune bietet grossartige Aussichten von ca. 700m H\u00f6he auf die umliegende Insel bis hinunter zum tiefblauen Pazifik. Hier k\u00f6nnen zumeist Bahama-Enten, Teichh\u00fchner und Fregattv\u00f6gel beobachtet werden. Die Lagune ist umgeben von endemischen Baumfarnen und Miconia Pflanzen und stellt eine der wenigen dauerhaften S\u00fcsswasserquellen des Archipel dar.<\/p><p><strong>La Galapaguera:<\/strong><\/p><p>La Galapaguera ist ein Schildkr\u00f6tenreservat in dem die hiesige Riesenschildkr\u00f6tenspezie in semi-nat\u00fcrlichen gehalten und aufgezogen wird. Eine ca. 1 st\u00fcndge Fahrt von West nach Ost quer \u00fcber die Insel bringt den Besucher zu dem vom Galapagos Park im Zusammenarbeit mit Wissenschaftlern der Charles Darwin Station entwickelten und gebauten Reservat. Ein Pfad f\u00fchrt durch das Gel\u00e4nde in dem inmitten vieler endemischer und einheimischer Pflanzen der Insel rund 25 der gewaltigen Schildkr\u00f6ten beobachtet werden k\u00f6nnen. Der Erfolg der Einrichtung erreichte seinen H\u00f6hepunkt, als vor wenigen Jahren die ersten Nachkommen der Galapagos Riesenschildkr\u00f6ten im Reservat geboren worden sind und so das \u00dcberleben der Spezie auf dieser Insel sichern. Wenn man sieht wie sich die gewaltigen Kolosse langsam und entspannt durch das Gehege bewegen hat man das Gef\u00fchl die Zeit wurde hier langsamer vergehen.<\/p><p><strong>Ochoa Strand (Playa Ochoa):<\/strong><\/p><p>Der Ochoa Strand befindet sich ca. 10km von dem Hafen Puerto Baquerizo Moreno nahe der Galapaguera. Ein kleiner Pfad f\u00fchrt von der \u201cStrasse\u201d das letzte St\u00fcck bis zu dem kleinen abgelegenen Strand. Hier kann man ungest\u00f6rt in den hohen Wellen des Pazifik schwimmen und beim Sonnen die neugierigen Spottdrosseln und Darwinfinken beobachten. Immer wieder gleiten elegant Braunpelikane und Fregattv\u00f6gel am Himmel vorbei und Bahama-Enten waten den Strand entlang.<\/p><p><strong>Isla Lobos (Seel\u00f6wen Insel):<\/strong><\/p><p>Die kleine Insel ist nach den vielen Seel\u00f6wen die hier leben benannt. Isla Lobos liegt ca. eine 1 st\u00fcndige Bootsfahrt von Puerto Baquerizo Moreno entfernt an der Nordwest Spitze von der Insel San Cristobal und ist von einem schmalen Kanal von dieser getrennt. Entlang der felsigen K\u00fcste nisten Blaufusst\u00f6lpel (je nach Saison) und die kleinen Str\u00e4nde der Insel sind voller Seel\u00f6wen der hiesigen Kolonie. Die Insel ist ein sch\u00f6nes Beispiel f\u00fcr die Atmosph\u00e4re von Ruhe und nat\u00fcrlicher Sch\u00f6nheit die so typisch f\u00fcr die Galapagos Inseln ist.<\/p><p><strong>Le\u00f3n Dormido:<\/strong><\/p><p>Leon Dormido (Schlafender L\u00f6we), auch bekannt als Kicker Rock, ist eine spektakul\u00e4re Tuffgesteins-Formation die ca. 7km vor der nordwestlichen K\u00fcste von San Cristobal rund 152 hoch aus dem Meer ragt. Von S\u00fcden kommend sieht die Formation wie ein schlafender L\u00f6we aus (daher der Name) w\u00e4hrend man von Norden kommend sieht dass ein Spalt den Felsen trennt und einen kleinen Kanal bildet. Kleine Boote k\u00f6nnen diesen Spalt durchfahren \u2013 Mutige durchqueren ihn schnorchelnd da hier oft Meeresschildkr\u00f6ten, Rochen und ganze Haischulen beobachtet werden k\u00f6nnen. Die Klippen sind voller Nester von Seev\u00f6geln wie T\u00f6lpel und Fregattv\u00f6gel, die man sehr gut vom Boot beobachten kann wenn man den Felsen umf\u00e4hrt.<\/p><p><strong>Punta Pitt:<\/strong><\/p><p>Punta Pitt ist ein Besucherpunkt mit interessanten Tuffgestein-Formationen. Hier k\u00f6nnen alle drei T\u00f6lpelarten von Galapagos beobachtet werden: Blaufusst\u00f6lpel, Rotfusst\u00f6lpel und Maskent\u00f6lpel.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section
