Der Vulkan Cerro Crocker ist mit 864m H\u00f6he der H\u00f6chste Punkt der Insel. Die Insel Santa Cruz hat die gr\u00f6sste Bev\u00f6lkerung in Galapagos und mit rund 20.000 Bewohnern ist der kleine Hafen Puerto Ayora im S\u00fcden Insel die gr\u00f6sste Siedlung der Insel und bietet Besuchern die meisten touristischen Einrichtungen und Dienstleistungen. Der Hafenbucht von Puerto Ayora, Academy Bay, ist bei Weltumseglern genauso beliebt wie bei Seel\u00f6wen und Pelikanen. Von dem Anlegesteg kann man gut Fregattv\u00f6gel und Blausfusst\u00f6lpel in den kleinen Buchten \u201eLas Ninfas\u201c und \u201ePelican Bay\u201c beim Fischen beobachten, insbesondere wenn die Fischer Ihren Fang reinigen.<\/p><p><strong>Charles Darwin Center:<\/strong><\/p><p>1959, zur Jahrhundertfeier von der Ver\u00f6ffentlichung von Charles Darwins \u201cOrigin of the Species\u201d (Die Entstehung der Arten), haben die Regierung von Ecuador und die Internationale Charles Darwin Stiftung mit Unterst\u00fctzung der UNESCO die Station Charles Darwin in der Academy Bay nahe dem Hafen Puerto Ayora gegr\u00fcndet. Auch wenn die meisten Besucher nach Galapagos kommen, um die einzigartige Natur zu erleben ist es auch interessant zu erfahren wir diese Natur auf den Inseln gesch\u00fctzt und erhalten wird.<\/p><p>Eine der Hauptattraktionen der Station ist die Van Staelen Ausstellung in welcher Informationen \u00fcber das Klima und die Geografie der Inseln sowie \u00fcber die Evolution ihrer Flora und Fauna dargeboten werden.<\/p><p>Im Schildkr\u00f6ten Zentrum werden kleine Schildkr\u00f6tenbabies liebevoll versorgt und aufgezogen. Sobald sie gross genug sind (ca. 5 Jahre) werden sie in ihre nat\u00fcrlichen Lebensr\u00e4ume auf den verschiedenen Inseln gebracht um dort wieder gesunde Best\u00e4nde herzustellen. Die Station hat aber auch einige erwachsene Riesenschildkr\u00f6ten die man auf dem Rundgang in ihren Gehegen besuchen kann; es ist beeindruckend diesen riesigen bis zu 250kg schweren Tieren zu begegnen. Der wohl ber\u00fchmteste Bewohner der Charles Darwin Station ist sicherlich \u201eLonesome George\u201c der letzte \u00dcberlebende seiner Art der Insel Pinta. In und um die Charles Darwin Station herum k\u00f6nnen Besucher die typische Trockenvegetation der Inseln wie Kakti, Mangroven und Salzb\u00fcsche kennenlernen. Hier sind viele Landv\u00f6gel, insbesondere die Darwinfinken heimisch.<\/p><p><strong>Hochland von Santa Cruz:<\/strong><\/p><p>In dem beeindruckenden Hochland im Zentrum von Santa Cruz bedeckt eine grosse Pflanzenvielfalt gewaltige erloschene Vulkane. Bei klarem Wetter bieten die Gipfel der Vulkankegel eine weite Sicht auf die ganzj\u00e4hrig gr\u00fcnen H\u00fcgel und bis hinab zu der Trockenzone an der K\u00fcste. Farne und Miconia Pflanzen ebenso wie ganze Scalesien W\u00e4lder (Sonnenblumenbaum-W\u00e4lder) wachsen hier im Hochland. Beliebte Besucherpunkte sind die Zwillingskrater (Los Gemelos) zwei eingefallene Kaldera sowie die gewaltigen bis zu 2km langen Lavatunnel. Nahe dem kleinen Dorf liegt das private Reservat El Chato in dem man \u201cwilde\u201d Riesenschildkr\u00f6ten in ihrem nat\u00fcrlichen Habitat erleben kann. Eine Lagune, weites Grassland und ein Nebelwald sind zudem Heimat von Sumpfohreulen, Darwinfinken, Rubintyrannen, Galapagos Rallen, Goldschnabel-Sumpfh\u00fchner und Goldwalds\u00e4ngern.<\/p><p><strong>Tortuga Bucht (Bah\u00eda Tortuga):<\/strong><\/p><p>Ein sch\u00f6n angelegter Pfad f\u00fchrt von Puerto Ayora zur Tortuga Bucht. Diese ca. 1 st\u00fcndige Wanderung durch den Trockenwald ist besonders gut zur Vogelbeobachtung geeignet, da man hier viele Spezien der Darwinfinken nahe dem Weg entdecken kann. Die Sonnenunterg\u00e4nge in der Bucht sind spektakul\u00e4r und eine kleine gesch\u00fctzte Bucht im Westen der Bah\u00eda bietet ausgezeichnete Schwimm- und Schnorchelbedingungen, da hier kaum Str\u00f6mungen wirken und man hier mit etwas Gl\u00fcck Meeresechsen, junge Rochen und Haie beobachten kann. In den umliegenden Mangroven sitzen viele Seev\u00f6gel wie Pelikane und Flamingos und schauen neugierig den Schwimmern zu.<\/p><p>Der weisse Sand der Tortuga Bucht lockt in der Fortpflanzungszeit die namensgebenden Meeresschildkr\u00f6ten (Tortuga Marina) zur Eiablage an.<\/p><p><strong>Playa Bachas:<\/strong><\/p><p>Die zwei kleinen Str\u00e4nde von Bachas liegen westlich von Turtle Cove im Norden von Santa cruz. Der weisse \u201eSand\u201c aus feiner weisser zerriebener Koralle macht die Str\u00e4nde zu einem der beliebtesten Nistpl\u00e4tze f\u00fcr Meeresschildkr\u00f6ten. Hinter einem der Str\u00e4nde liegt eine kleine Brackwasser-Lagune in der oft Flamingos, Regenbrachv\u00f6gel und Stelzenl\u00e4ufer beobachtet werden k\u00f6nnen. Ein Ausflug in die nahegelegene Caleta Tortuga Negra (Schwarze Schildkr\u00f6ten Bucht) im Panga (Beiboot) gibt Gelegenheit in den vielen kleinen Buchten Rochen, Haie und die namensgebenden Meeresschildkr\u00f6ten zu beobachten.<\/p><p><strong>Drachen H\u00fcgel (Cerro Dragon):<\/strong><\/p><p>Ein weiterer Besucherpunkt auf Santa Cruz ist der Drachen H\u00fcgel (Cerro Dragon), im Westen der Insel. Ein Pfad f\u00fchrt vom kleinen Anlegestelle zu einem weissen Strand und weiter in das Hinterland. Vorbei an einer Salzwasserlagune mit vielen Watv\u00f6geln erreicht man weiter landeinw\u00e4rts ein Nistgebiet der hiesigen Landleguane. Vorbei an Kakteen und Balsamb\u00e4umen gelangt man schliesslich zum Gipfel des namnesgebenden H\u00fcgel und kann die sch\u00f6ne Aussicht auf die Umgebung geniessen.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section
